World Wetlands Day was celebrated on 2nd of February in Hersek Lagoon.

As in the whole country, The World Wetlands Day was celebrated on February 2, in the Herzegovina Lagoon, which is one of the important wetlands of our region, in Altınova District of Yalova province. Bird Watching study in and around the Lagoon was carried out with Altınova Municipality Bird Watcher Fatih Bülbül and Nature Promotion and Education Center personnel.

 
On the World Wetlands Day, Hersek Lagoon hosted members of the "IBWA" Istanbul Bird Watching Association, bird photographers and important bird and nature documentary film-makers of our country. 
While the bird watchers carried out their work by making use of the observation towers, bird photographers took advantage of the clear and sunny weather and made beautiful shots.

The observation study resulted in a total of 70 bird species with the observation of the red-necked grebe
"Podiceps grisegena" and the horned grebe "Podiceps auritus" waterfowl species of the podicipediformes genus, which are rare for our country.

 
From time to time, the guests took a break at the Nature Promotion and Education Center and evaluated their work. The guests, who appreciated all the work done by the Altınova Municipality in and around the Hersek Lagoon, thanked especially to the Mayor of Altınova, Dr. Metin Oral and all those who made contribution and left the field.
